Requirements by region
πΊπΈ United States
FTC transparency + 'no purchase necessary'. Official rules must state eligibility, start/end, prize value (ARV) and odds. Some states (e.g. NY, FL) require registration/bonding for high-value sweepstakes.
π¬π§ United Kingdom
CAP Code (ASA). Rules must be clear and available, state significant conditions, closing date, and how/when winners are chosen and notified. 'No purchase necessary' or a free entry route is expected.
π¨π¦ Canada
Winners must correctly answer a skill-testing question (legal requirement). Quebec promotions are regulated by the RACJ, with declaration and duties for prizes above a threshold.
π¦πΊ Australia
Random-draw (game of chance) trade promotions need a permit in some states (e.g. NSW, ACT). Publish full terms, dates and prize details.

FAQ
Do I legally need rules for an Instagram giveaway?
In most jurisdictions, yes β a public giveaway should publish official rules stating who is eligible, how to enter, the prize, the entry period and how the winner is chosen. Meta's own Promotion Guidelines also require you to acknowledge that the giveaway is not sponsored by Instagram.
What is the 'not sponsored by Meta' disclaimer?
Instagram/Meta requires every promotion run on its platform to include a release stating the promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram or Meta. The generator adds this clause automatically.
Why does 'no purchase necessary' matter?
In the US and many other markets, a prize giveaway that requires a purchase to enter can be treated as an illegal lottery. Keeping entry free (no purchase necessary) keeps it a sweepstakes/giveaway rather than a lottery.
Is the generated text legal advice?
No. This is an informational template, not legal advice. For high-value prizes or purchase-linked promotions, have a qualified attorney review your rules and check state/country requirements (e.g. US FTC disclosure, Canadian skill-testing question, registration/bonding rules).
How does SHA-256 winner selection help my rules?
Each draw uses a random 256-bit seed; the result shows the seed and SHA-256 hashes (also on the PDF certificate). Automatic draws get a public result page, and the hash can be checked at /verificar to confirm the published result was not edited afterwards. Useful protection against 'the giveaway was rigged' accusations. The rules reference the verification page.
