Copy-ready giveaway rules

Prize ideas by store type
The prize that works is one your customers would actually buy. Generic prizes such as cash or phones attract people who chase giveaways and never come back.

- Beauty and skincare
- A kit of your best sellers or a package of treatments.
- Restaurants, coffee shops and delivery
- Dinner for two, or one order a week through December.
- Pet stores

Black Friday giveaway timeline for 2026
Draw BEFORE Friday: the winner announcement lands while your account gets the most visits and opens the way for your offers.
November 2–8
Pick the prize, write the rules and design the post.
November 9–13
Publish the giveaway post. Two weeks of entries give it time to spread.
November 24 (Tuesday), 11:59 pm
Close entries at the time you announced.
November 25 (Wednesday)
Draw the winner, record your screen or go live, and post the result link before Thanksgiving.
November 27 (Friday)
Black Friday: keep the result pinned and launch your deals.
November 30 (Monday)
Cyber Monday: a code for everyone who entered is a nice follow-up (separate from the giveaway).
Changed a date? Change it in the rules and say so in Stories. Drawing after the announced deadline is the most common source of complaints.
How to pick the winner with PickAWin
- 1
Wait for the deadline
Draw only after the time in your rules, so late entrants aren't left out.
- 2
Paste the post link
Fetching every comment automatically is a one-time payment per draw, with the price shown before you pay. If you already have the comments, pasting the list and drawing is free.
- 3
Apply your rules first
Remove duplicate comments and require the number of tags in your rules. Re-drawing after you see the winner looks rigged.
- 4
Share the result
The result shows the random seed and a SHA-256 hash and gets a public page you can link in Stories. Premium adds a cinematic reveal made for screen recording.
Giveaway law in the US, briefly
A prize, chance and a required purchase together make a lottery, which private businesses can't run. That's why “no purchase necessary” and a free way to enter matter. Some states add their own rules: New York and Florida, for example, require registration and bonding when the total prize value is over $5,000.
This is general information, not legal advice. For valuable prizes, check with a lawyer.
What Instagram requires
Meta's promotion guidelines ask you to state that Instagram doesn't sponsor or administer the promotion and that entrants release Instagram from responsibility. You also can't ask people to tag themselves in photos they're not in. Tagging friends in the comments is fine.
Frequently asked questions
- When should I run a Black Friday giveaway?
- Post it between November 9 and 13 and draw by November 25, before Thanksgiving and Black Friday on November 27.
- Can I require a purchase to enter?
- In the US, a required purchase plus a prize and chance can make it an illegal lottery. Keep entry free and offer a separate discount code if you want sales.
- Can following my account be a rule?
- You can ask, but no tool can verify who follows you. If it matters, check the winner manually before announcing and say so in the rules.
- Is picking a winner free?
- Pasting the comment list and drawing is free. Fetching comments automatically from the post link is a one-time payment per draw, shown before you pay.
- How do I prove the draw was fair?
- Share the public result link: it shows the random seed and SHA-256 hash, so anyone can check the same winner came out.
